Figuring out the best air filter solution can be daunting. The following factors should be considered to determine the appropriate air filters for you: type of airborne contaminants, size of particles, air flow rate, regulatory requirements, and your budget.

But worry not, we got you all covered! Talk to one of our air filtration experts and we will do all the work for you!

The frequency at which air filters should be changed or replaced in industrial or commercial applications can vary depending on several factors, such as the type of filter, the air flow rate, the level of airborne contaminants, and the operating conditions.

However, a general guideline is to change or replace air filters every three to six months.

Yes. Investing in high-quality air filters can lead to significant cost savings over time by improving system performance, reducing energy consumption, and prolonging equipment lifespan.

Air filters can reduce energy costs by allowing HVAC systems to operate more efficiently, as clean filters allow for better airflow and reduce strain on the system. Secondly, they help extend the lifespan of equipment by preventing the build-up of dirt and debris, which can cause mechanical problems and reduce the effectiveness of the system.

Last but not least, they reduce maintenance and repair costs by minimizing the need for cleaning, repairs, and replacements.

Definitions

HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, and it refers to the technology and systems used to provide indoor comfort and air quality.

High Efficiency Particulate Air. HEPA filter is a type of air filter that is designed to capture very small particles, such as dust, pollen, and bacteria, from the air.

Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. It is a rating system used to measure the effectiveness of an air filter at capturing particles of different sizes. MERV ratings range from 1 to 20, with higher numbers indicating greater filtration efficiency.

Underwriters Laboratories is a global safety certification company that provides testing, inspection, and certification services to ensure the safety and quality of products, systems, and services.

UL standards are widely recognized and accepted by regulatory agencies, manufacturers, and consumers as a mark of safety and quality.

Dust Holding Capacity (DHC) refers to the amount of dust or particles that an air filter can hold before it becomes saturated and needs to be replaced.

It is typically measured in grams per square meter of filter media, and it is an important factor in determining the lifespan and effectiveness of an air filter. Filters with higher DHC can hold more particles and last longer than those with lower DHC, making them a good choice for applications with high levels of airborne contaminants.

Arrestance is a measure of an air filter’s ability to capture and hold large particles, such as dust and pollen, from the air. It is typically expressed as a percentage, and it represents the proportion of airborne particles of a certain size that the filter is able to trap.

Arrestance is often used as a basic indicator of an air filter’s performance, but it does not take into account the filter’s ability to capture smaller particles or its overall efficiency.

Indoor Air Quality. It refers to the quality of the air inside buildings, homes, and other enclosed spaces where people live, work, and play. IAQ can be affected by a variety of factors, including temperature, humidity, ventilation, and the presence of pollutants, such as dust, mold, and chemicals.

Pressure drop refers to the reduction in air pressure that occurs as air flows through a filter or other air handling system. It is caused by the resistance of the filter media, which can restrict airflow and reduce the efficiency of the system.

Pressure drop is an important factor to consider when selecting an air filter or designing an HVAC system, as filters with higher pressure drops can increase energy costs and reduce the overall performance of the system.

American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers. It is a professional organization that is dedicated to advancing the science and practice of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) systems.
